Beanie's very own Gwilym has made a lino print of the shop!
He's selling them to raise money for Open Kitchen Social Club, a social eating project in Sheffield that provides food, peer support, and a place to meet for asylum seekers, refugees, migrants and anyone in food or social poverty. £15 + £1.50 p&p - get in touch with us to order! And keep an eye out for the prints for sale in the shop very soon... www.beanieswholefoods.co.uk At this time of year, we would normally arrange collections of warm winter clothes, food and toiletries to distribute at our Christmas meals.
We can't do that this year so instead we are fundraising to buy these things and send them out with our food parcels at the beginning of January 2021, so that the people who want to support us in this way are still able to. Please do consider donating to our cause and sharing the appeal if you can: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/open-kitchen-social-club Thank you! Volunteer drivers needed every Monday approx 2pm to 4pm.
Expenses paid, please contact us for more details. Ian has made a piece for radio broadcast, 'Mutual Effects: Food, Care and the Commons in Sheffield' will be aired by Radio Commons - http://radio-commons.eu/en/homepage/ - at 4pm - 6pm CET (3pm - 5pm UK) this Sunday 27th September.
"Mutual Effects is art as social research, a tapestry of sound drawing on interests in deep mapping and the Mass Observation movement to connect spaces of care, co-operation and conviviality in a northern British city during COVID-19. Through historical and contemporary prisms of grassroots food activism, a loose narrative moves between field recordings of a pedestrian pilgrimage to Edward Carpenter’s former Derbyshire farm commune, to the sound of 45kg of rescued peas being shelled in a communal kitchen, and through a range of conversations that lay out stark realities of austerity and hostility in the shadow of the monolithic post-European state. Woven through the recordings is music from the sonic commons of DIY music collectives from Sheffield (and beyond in some cases), all made and released during lockdown. The project is a collaboration between Out.Side.Film and Al McGregor, with support from Ivor Davies, and focuses on the work of Foodhall Sheffield, Open Kitchen Social Club and National Food Service." Huge thanks to Yafai & Sons for such generous donations that we are still working our way through them after 2 weeks - we've now made enough minced ginger and garlic to last us for a good while! Thank you also for the Wonderful ongoing generosity of you & your customers, it was great to be able to deliver cooked lamb as a change from chicken! Hope you & your family had a great holiday Kas, welcome back!
