Open Kitchen Social Club was founded as an independent, constituted community group by Katelyn, Ian (Nes) & Firas in 2014. We are planning an Annual General Meal in 2024, to celebrate our 10th year.
Last year we recruited 4 wonderful multi-talented & experienced people as Trustees & Directors: Jude, Sarah, Karen & Nuhu. They successfully applied for us to become a Community Interest Company, CIC number 15012463, incorporated 19th July 2023, and then applied for us to become a charity. This should allow us to widen our bids for funding, in these difficult times where people are struggling with increased costs, while the need for social times shared with free meals has also increased. Today, 11th January 2024, we were awarded charitable status, as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, CIO number 1206495, so we have much to celebrate and to thank Jude for taking the lead on these applications. We also want to thank & celebrate all involved with Open Kitchen Social Club over the years, roll on 2024! Korean Japchae is one of the most popular dishes in Korea, and a celebratory favourite- using glass noodles made with sweet potatoes stir-fried with colourful vegetables and sometimes adding protein like beef, tofu or eggs. Hope our members enjoyed it!
Lovely photos by Oliver Ibbotson from our collaboration with The Bare Project a couple of weeks ago.
It is a privilege to be invited to gather together again to Celebrate Weddings, Christenings, Funerals, Festivals and all manner of meetings. Catering for your events helps fund our free weekly social pop-up cafes: thank you to all involved - and for all the encouraging feedback too, just wonderful!
Welcome to all our new volunteers, including Pampukha Svitlana, who created a delicious salad to go with her Ukrainian style Bolognese on Monday.
Head chef and organiser Firas Sharefy is mega busy as always. Nothing is wasted: he makes left over plums into luscious compote and pickles beetroot to share too. Thank you to all our wonderful hard working, heavy lifting, helpful kitchen teams and to all who support us, giving so generously of your time, sharing skills, ideas, resources, experience and ideas!
Here's this Tuesday's helpers as we return to the Sanctuary: Ammar, Nira, Mikeyas, Xiomara, Yaya and Taniya. |
